As the Chairman of the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB), it is both an honor and a responsibility to serve a sector that holds immense potential to transform the future of our nation. Private universities are not just academic institutions—they are engines of innovation, centers of excellence, and partners in socio-economic development.
Since assuming leadership, I have remained fully committed to strengthening the position of private universities through constructive engagement, evidence-based policy advocacy, and inclusive leadership. With the support of our esteemed Executive Committee and member institutions, we have made substantial progress in several key areas:
Strategic Policy Advocacy: We have worked closely with the University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Education, and other regulatory bodies to address core challenges—ranging from PhD program approvals to the reduction of VAT and tax burdens, ensuring a fair and enabling environment for private universities.
Research-Driven Reforms: Under APUB’s coordination, we’ve led multiple research initiatives, including proposals on subject-wise seat allocation, PhD policy development, and new program approvals—ensuring our recommendations reflect international best practices and the realities of our universities.
Ensuring Transparency and Representation: In our 12th Annual General Meeting, we ensured the inclusion of reputable and visionary individuals in our new Executive Committee. This diverse team reflects the strength, integrity, and aspirations of the private university sector.
Promoting Stakeholder Engagement: We have hosted inclusive dialogues with Members of Parliament, UGC leaders, and key government advisers. Through these platforms, we advocated for structural reforms, tax exemptions, research support, and academic autonomy.
Enhancing APUB’s Visibility and Credibility: APUB is now officially recognized by UGC for circular dissemination, reflecting our growing institutional legitimacy. We have also built international collaborations and participated in global academic conferences to represent Bangladesh’s private education sector on a broader stage. My vision for APUB is clear: to establish private universities as top-tier national contributors—known for quality, innovation, and accountability. With the dedication of our academic leaders, faculty, and administrative teams, I believe we can position Bangladesh’s private universities as global models of excellence.
